Delaware North Parks and Resorts is hiring a full-time Gardener to join our team at the Kennedy Space Center in Merritt Island, Florida. As a Gardener, you will be responsible for maintaining turf-grass, shrubs, trees, and other related work tasks to ensure that all landscaping is always presentable. Responsibilities

  • Edging, mowing, tree trimming, watering, mulching and pruning of ornamentals and trimming as necessary.

  • Planting, weeding, fertilizing, identify and eliminate pests in the landscape.

  • Maintain parking lots and assist with traffic control as required.

  • Driving a company vehicle around the property.

  • Installation and repair of sprinklers to assure proper irrigation.

  • Carry out special projects and work tasks as directed by the Manager.

  • Follow safety and environmental business practices and keep the work area in a clean and orderly condition.

  • Attend all company training relating to GuestPath (guest services), GreenPath (environmental management system), and safety awareness. This includes wear proper PPE including safety shoes (steel toe), hearing protection, safety glasses, etc.

Qualifications

  • Previous gardening experience in a similar environment including floral arrangement design skills.

  • Self-motivated and have the ability to work without direct supervision.

  • Must have a valid driver's license to operate company vehicles around the property.

  • Thorough knowledge of indigenous flora, fertilizers, and insecticides allowed for property use.

  • Experience using gardening equipment such as hand power tools, lawn mowers, and standard commercial gardening equipment.

  • Requires use of PPE to include: safety shoes(steel toe), hearing protection, safety glasses, mechanics gloves, and other required PPE.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to consistently lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

  • Must be able to obtain a Back Safety certificate.

  • Must be able to pass annual health screening.

  • Must be able to constantly stand, walk, bend, reach, pull, push, twist, squat, stretch, lift and carry throughout shift.

  • Must be able to withstand hot or cold outdoor temperatures depending on the season.
